WASHINGTON, DC, OCTOBER 28, 2022 – Urban Alliance CEO Elizabeth Lindsey announces that she will step down from her role and will support the organization as a senior advisor through the end of this year. Urban Alliance is a national nonprofit that connects high school students to equitable, inclusive careers through paid work experiences, mentorship, and professional development in the Greater Washington, DC area, Baltimore, Chicago, and Detroit.
“I’ve spent the past 12 years leading nonprofits, and this is the right time for me to explore other sectors/roles as I enter into the second half of my career,” said Lindsey. “It’s been an amazing 18 months with Urban Alliance, and I’m excited to support the organization as a senior advisor through December.”
Lindsey joined Urban Alliance as CEO in April of 2021 and led the organization during the height of the pandemic while continuing to provide hundreds of high school students with meaningful paid internships, mentoring and professional development experiences virtually. Before joining Urban Alliance, Lindsey was CEO of Byte Back, and previously Chief Operating Officer of Groundswell. Her nearly two decades of nonprofit and government experience, empowering individuals and communities to create positive change, has received national recognition including being named as one of The Root’s 100 Most Influential African Americans of 2019.
“During her time with Urban Alliance, Elizabeth has made a significant contribution to this organization. She joined us during the pandemic, which was a moment of uncertainty for everyone, and she continued to not only do the work but to help grow the organization during a very difficult period,” said Mary Menell Zients, Urban Alliance Board Chair. “Under her leadership, we continued to serve hundreds of students across our regions, planned our expansion to the Bay Area, and continued to build on the resources that help Urban Alliance thrive. We are grateful for Elizabeth’s contribution, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
The Board of Directors have named Veronica Nolan to serve as the Interim CEO while a search process for a new permanent CEO commences. Nolan previously served as Urban Alliance Executive Director from 2002-2014 and led the organization’s expansion to Baltimore, Chicago, and Northern Virginia. “I will always be indebted to Urban Alliance for making a meaningful difference in the lives of young adults for more than 25 years and continuing a path towards growth. I look forward to supporting the organization during this period of transition,” said Nolan.
