11th Grade Workforce Readiness Program
11th Grade Students
This program is designed to provide career exposure and skill training before participating in our Flagship High School Internship Program.
Urban Alliance’s 11th-grade program was designed to provide workforce readiness development, career exposure, and skill training. Using Career Readiness Standards, students will develop basic employment skills, demonstrate their readiness for the workforce, and create a professional portfolio with a Senior Pathway Plan.
After being selected to join the program, students will then spend 3 hours per week participating in workshops focused on building these professional skills. These workshops will be held twice a week after school during the school year.
Applications will be available in Fall 2024
Students who successfully complete the program will have gained
- intensive workforce readiness training
- earned up to $1,000
- completed up to 43 professional development hours
- gained career exposure
- completed a professional portfolio that includes a resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile
- and receive priority admission to the Urban Alliance High School Internship Program
Objectives
At the end of the program, students should have:
- Measurable gains in soft skills as demonstrated through performance-based learning tasks, consistent workshop participation, one-on-one meetings with Urban Alliance staff, and pre- and post-program surveys
- A solid understanding of how to successfully navigate the job search and application process
- Career Exposure and exploration
- Completed professional portfolio
- Senior Pathway Plan
Professional Portfolio
Each student will complete a professional portfolio as a milestone to successfully completing the program. This portfolio will include:
- Cover letter
- Resume
- LinkedIn profile
Mock Interview
Each student will participate in a mock interview, where they will have the opportunity to display the professional skills learned throughout the program year in a one-on-one interview with an Urban Alliance staff member, job partner or volunteer. They will be scored on their performance.
Career Exposure & Exploration
Students are encouraged to explore a variety of career possibilities suited to their interests and learn to make decisions based on information about themselves and about careers. They will gain insight into potential career interests through career research, exposure events, and guest speakers from various career fields.
